Artist Statement
Connie Publicover's water drop is a labour of love . She is a retired hairdresser from Nova Scotia. Photography came into her life as a result of prolonged health issues. She is mostly self taught and has spent over 6 yrs developing her water drop photography. Her images are not photo shopped, they are captured in camera. Specializing in water drop photography has been challenging and rewarding for Connie. "She loves capturing a moment in time that is so pure and present but usually never seen with the naked eye ." The beauty of these small worlds are amazeing, they are ever changing and always a challenge to capture.
Connie's image Come Play With Me was chosen by Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Halifax for their Centennial Fund Raising Campaign and presentation. They feel it reflects the energy and joy they want associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Connie's body of work titled "After The Rain will be on exhibit at the Corridor Gallery in Halifax April 2013.
Connie's photography was featured in the November 2012 issue of the Shore News.
Connie exhibited a body of work titled After The Rain at the GGGallery in Charlottetown PEI Aug 2012.
Connie showed her work at the 2012 Avondale Art Fair where she met Sherman Hinze who complemented her on her works unique subject matter and level of photographic skill required to capture it.
Connie has recently branched off into macro images of botanicals. Her experiance with extream macro
work of water drops gives her a unique way of finding new beauty in this subject. True to her love of the water drop she often shoots after the rain to capture the beauty she finds there.
Connie has created fourteen large scale pieces of work for a US Designer's project "Embassy Suites Hotel Lobby" in Orlando Florida. One piece being 8 ft x5 ft. This body of large scale work will have international exposure and Connie is excited to see where that may lead her. Placing her work with publishing houses makes her work available on an international level.
Connie also does custom work when the project requires something unique.
Connie's story of what lead her to water drop photography was featured in the 2012 Jan/Feb issue of the salt Scapes Magazine.
Connie's work entitled A Drop Of water was Exhibited at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre St. Andrews NB in 2010.
Seal Cove Lighthouse Drop was chosen as a photo of the day in the Metro Global 2010 photo Challenge.
Connie's water drop image of the Port Bickerton Light house was chosen as one of the photos of the day and placed in the top 30 in Canada out of over 11,000 entries in the 2009 Metro Global Photo challenge.
Hang On Kitty placed second out in the macro category with over 22,000 entries on Better Photo .com Aug/09 monthly contest .
Tripple Drop was a finalist in the macro category
Connie is pleased to have her work used by The Global Water Dancers in their effort to bring awareness to clean water around the world.
5 of her water drop images have been chosen by Kodak from a world wide submission as Picture Of The Day and displayed on Time Square NY .
